We built Suss to be transparent about data. Here's how official public records fit into your safety read.

A public-record search scans government and official sources — such as court records, sex-offender registries, and corrections databases — that are already open to the public by law. It looks for documented events tied to a person's name and location, not private credit, medical, or employment files.

Suss uses public-record signals as one layer of a broader safety read. If a record is found, we summarize the category (for example, a court or sex-offender record) and explain why it matters — so you can decide whether to slow down, meet in public, or walk away. We never hand you raw documents or private dossiers.

They can show arrests, charges, convictions, corrections records, or sex-offender registrations where available and legally public. Coverage varies by state and county, and not every search returns a hit. A clean result is helpful context; it is not a guarantee that someone is safe.

No. Suss is a personal vetting aid, not a consumer reporting agency. Our checks are not FCRA-compliant and cannot be used for employment, housing, credit, or any other regulated purpose. They're designed only to help you make safer choices about who you choose to meet.

No. We do not keep raw court documents, case files, or detailed criminal records in our database. We only save a high-level summary — such as the number of records found and the categories — along with your report so you can review your own results privately.

We store only the information you provide (photo, name, age range, city/state, and any notes) plus a high-level summary of scan results. Uploaded photos are processed for analysis and automatically deleted after 30 days — your report summary stays in your account so you can review past results. You can request full account deletion or corrections anytime by emailing support@getsuss.org from the email address on your account; we aim to complete deletion requests within 30 days, except where limited by law.

Public-record searches are available to paid Suss users, up to a limited number per month to keep the service reliable for everyone. Free users still get the behavioral read and photo-signal summary. Only run a search on someone you're already in contact with — never as a way to harass or stalk a stranger.
